Do you feel overwhelmed searching for a job? How long have you been unemployed or with a job that doesn’t make you feel happy?
Job searching its time and energy consuming. You need to take care of your Resume and dedicate hours to search in different platforms. However, it doesn’t need to be like that! With these 7 steps you can enjoy the process while hunting for your dream job.
First, I know your feel tired, but you only need one hour every day. Don’t forget that discipline is the secret to success. Let’s start!
1. You’ll need a computer. Sit comfortably in front of it with some water, coffee, tea. Turn on some energetic music that is new for you. Something you cannot sing, lyrics that you cannot repeat and cannot distract you. I use deep house working music.
2. Start your job search making a list of 3 companies and 3 jobs you would love. If you can’t find 3 jobs, you can identify 10 activities you love to do and search for a job that has at least 5 of them.
3. Get up to speed with current job search best practices such as LinkedIn search, networking and personal branding. We offer these services, so you don’t have to worry about that!
4. Check your Resume (you can read my article How to improve your Resume step-by-step) and adapt it to every job you are applying for. Please, check for grammar mistakes! Only one mistake can take your Resume out of the selection process.
5. Use your Resume on your LinkedIn Profile and make it noticed.
6. Prepare for that interview. Rehearse possible questions you can get, write down your most important values and always have cases of your work experience to exemplify your values and the solutions you provided to difficult situations.
7. Avoid job search anxiety. One day at a time. Job search doesn’t give immediate results. It takes time and effort, but they won’t be enough. Without the right tools and quality in your search, you will be making the same mistakes and the effort won’t be reflected on results.
Don’t forget to stay focused, productive and positive. Some days we won’t feel like doing it. We will feel lazy or tired or just too anxious, but don’t procrastinate.
Don’t open Instagram or Facebook, don’t watch that movie, don’t accept distractions because every hour counts.
I can guarantee you that at the end of the daily hour you dedicate to your job search, you will feel proud and happy with yourself. You will feel that you are advancing.
